Background
Stewardship contracting is an innovative approach to managing landscapes by taking into account the effects of such activities on watershed health and local communities. In 2003 Congress authorized "permanent" stewardship contracting authorities for both the Forest Service and the BLM until 2013. These authorities give greater flexibility to federal land managers and local contrators. In addition stewardship projects promote collaboration and build relationships among important stakeholders in the community.

McKenzie Stewardship Group
The McKenzie Stewardship Group formed in the Fall of 2007 to explore opportunities to apply the stewardship authorities to restore forests, improve watershed health, and protect water quality within the McKenzie watershed.

Alsea Stewardship Group
The Alsea Stewardship Group meets regularly to review projects within the Alsea watershed located in the Suislaw National Forest.
Josephine County Stewardship Group
Collaborative partners in Josephine County are working together to identify opportunities for stewardship contracting that will also help address fire protection goals.
Siuslaw Stewardship Group
The Siuslaw Stewardship Project area is located on the Siuslaw National Forest in the central Oregon Coast Range and focuses on the Siuslaw River Watershed. The pilot project was a collaborative effort between the Forest Service and the community designed to enhance both watershed and community health.

Oregon Department of Forestry Stewardship Contracting Training
On Friday, June 9th, Resource Innovations facilitated a one-day training on stewardship contracting for ODF and their federal and community partners.
